Charney Canine Activity Holidays

Charney offers a fun filled activity holiday for your dog, so you can be sure that whilst you are enjoying yourself on holiday, your dog is too!

We have a range of activities which can be tailored to your dogs' individual needs and activity levels, to ensure they get the most from their stay.

Our activity holidays are suitable for fully vaccinated puppies right up to the more mature adult dog, and we will plan activities which we feel appropriate to each dog's age, fitness levels and individual preferences.

Activity holidays are particularly beneficial for very active breeds who enjoy the additional activities, challenges and stimulation, but are simply great fun for all, whether they are working dogs or family pets.

Boarding

Our purpose built boarding block offers superior, roomy, heated suites which have individual covered runs, all kept immaculately clean and dry for maximum comfort. We provide comfortable Perla beds and Profleece bedding to keep your dog happy and cosy.

**Picture coming soon**

Dogs are fed twice daily (3 times for young puppies) on our 'in house' premium dog food/puppy food or a food of your choice. A specific low calorie prescription diet is provided for weight loss boarders.

During their stay we give all dogs regular maintenance grooming which keeps coats in tip-top condition, helps us to bond with your dog and give them some relaxing one-to-one attention.

Before returning home all dogs will be given a thorough bath and brush up.*

*Clipping, trimming and handstripping is available at an additional cost and must be booked in advance to avoid disappointment.

Training

We offer daily training sessions for your dog to help with maintaining general obedience, to encourage better manners and teach basic skills to dogs who currently have little or no training. This aspect can be tailored directly to your personal needs as each dog is different. We also run group training where dogs can begin training sessions with the distraction of other classmates, teaching them to focus on their handler and learn self control in new situations.

We have a fully enclosed exercise paddock and an indoor training hall where we can practice recalls and socialisation with other dogs.

Training for specific behaviour problems is available, and in some cases a veterinary referral may be necessary to eliminate obvious physical causes for a behaviour before assessment and treatment can begin.

Agility

Our large enclosed agility paddock boasts a range of equipment including the ramp, hoop, see-saw, A-frame, jumps, tunnels, weave poles and the dog walk! Your dog will love to explore and use the equipment whilst being taught by one of our staff. Its a great way to make exercise fun and incorporate basic obedience as well.

Agility sessions are light-hearted and fun, each dog practicing whatever equipment they feel confident with. We gently increase the challenge with each session to help your dog to gain confidence with each section of the course.

*Agility is suitable for dogs over 12 months old, providing they are fit and healthy and not suffering from any physical problems, which could be exacerbated by a moderately challenging activity.

Puppy Club

Puppies are accepted up to 6 months old for 1 or 2 week courses. We encourage good manners at all times and gently teach your puppy the basic commands in between structured fun play sessions, which take place throughout the day.

We provide regular short individual training sessions each day, which is more effective for youngsters that lengthy sessions. Classes are also run for puppies to meet and greet other youngsters and have a play together in the safety of our large grass paddocks

We introduce puppies to people and other friendly dogs, teaching them how to integrate well and behave nicely in new situations.

Country Walks

'In The Lead' (www.inthelead.co.uk) run by Carly and Andy Bridport, and based here at Charney Pet Care Centre, offers long country walks for our activity holiday and weight loss boarders.

We have many miles of bridleways through woodland, fields and streams directly behind the property so we never need to even cross a road!

It is the perfect place for your dog to let off steam, get muddy, have a game of ball or frisbee, or simply take a leisurely stroll in the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside.

Weight Loss Programmes

Many dogs carry a little or a lot more weight than they perhaps should do and getting them back into shape is not always easy. We offer a weight reduction programme which is individually monitored by Medivet in Faringdon.

Day one starts with a weigh in, prescription diet and extra exercise to aid in agradual weight loss. Hydrotherapy swimming sessions are available on request and we recommend this for all dogs in the weight loss programme as it is an excellent form of non-weightbearing exercise, especially beneficial for individuals suffering with arthritis or joint problems which hinder regularexercise.

Hydrotherapy

We offer canine Hydrotherapy with Emma Barnard at Vale Hydrotherapy (www.valehydrotherapy.co.uk). Emma is a fully qualified Veterinary Nurse and is also accredited member of the Canine Hydrotherapy Association.

She is based only a 5 minute drive from us. All dogs are transported to and from hydro sessions by our staff, who stay with your pet whilst they swim. All pets are rinsed and dried before leaving the pool to come back to Charney.
